The nonprofit RiverTowne Players formed their community theater group in 2001 to encourage, promote and practice theatre arts for personal and civic pleasure. RiverTowne performs at the Masonic Theatre, 514 Hancock Street. Membership in the Players is open to anyone 16 years and older interested in acting, singing, directing, lighting, producing and all operations required to make show business happen. Annual dues are $15 per person.
The 2014 season includes Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, PIPPIN, The Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, RiverTowne's Rising Stars production of Disney's Peter Pan, JR. and a special holiday event, Dashing Through the Snow. RiverTowne's Rising Stars Youth group will sponsor for the third year, Aaron Williams' "Camp Broadway," a two week theatre arts summer camp in June 2014. The Young Actors Academy is an after school program that meets once a week for three hours and is now in its second year. The Academy includes training for young people ages 6-17 years of age in singing, dancing and acting for musical theatre.
