The New Bern Historical Society hosts a number of programs and events throughout the year for all ages. March is Civil War Adventure Day for boys and girls ages 6-12 held at the location of the 1862 Battle of New Bern. April is the Spring Historic Homes and Garden Tour, held in New Bern's Historic District. October is Ghostwalk, an event held at night in the downtown Historic District with spirits from New Bern's past telling their stories.
Adult education programs include lunch programs held five times a year, and two annual lectures. Children's programs are conducted both inside and outside of the classroom.
The Historical Society also hosts two annual fundraising programs: the ABC Sale, a large "garage sale" and a concert which in 2013 will be the Vienna Boys Choir.
The Historical Society office is located in the Attmore-Oliver House located at 511 Broad St. The building houses both office space, and several house museum installations, including a Civil War exhibit. The Historical Society also stewards the New Bern Civil War Battlefield Park which includes 30 acres of land that was part of the Battle of New Bern
