New Bern, N.C., has two distinct shopping areas. Downtown New Bern offers small boutiques, gift shops and galleries all within walking distance of one another. Coffee shops, restaurants, historic homes and buildings and parks complete the downtown scene. The shops in the historic area are locally owned and unique and are always a treat to visit.
Outside of the historic downtown area, New Bern offers nationally known superstores, a shopping mall, grocery stores, furniture stores, chain restaurants and much more. You’ll find nearly everything you need and want in New Bern.

New Bern offers large department stores in malls with ample parking and along with specialty shops, galleries and boutiques. Scattered throughout New Bern's Historic Downtown is a distinctive selection of shops to be included on any must-shop list. For a pleasant meander, stroll along Middle, Pollock, Hancock, Craven and South Front streets. Highlighted here are a few of the shops along the way and a few others around New Bern. These shops are certainly not the totality of the New Bern shopping experience, but they'll pique spending interest for sure. Because shops can — and do — change their hours to accommodate the needs of their customers, and because many have seasonal hours, visitors should call ahead or check online for days and hours shops are open. New Bern has a nice selection of interesting antiques shops, art galleries and jewelry stores.
Elite Feet, the shoe store next door to and affiliated with Craven Podiatry, specializes in diabetic and orthopaedic shoes. The well-trained staff knows how properly to measure and fit customers dealing with any unique foot situation and employs an I-Step food scanner as well. Clients may retain a complimentary copy of the scan if they wish and can walk away knowing their new shoes will be exactly right for their personal comfort. Open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 6 PM, the store also carries Red Wing shoes.
The Galley Stores at Skipjack Landing boast fresh local produce, meats and gourmet items. They feature farm-grown beef, and seafood caught, cleaned and on ice every day. Right on Front Street where a parking lot is readily accessible if curbside spots are taken, shopping is easy and pleasant. Hard-to-find items and gourmet condiments are on the shelves for the finishing touches to make unique lunches, a dinner for two or a buffet for ten. The Galley Stores is one of the businesses of the Skipjack Landing development.
