Meadows Inn, built in 1847 for New Bern merchant John Alexander Meadows, was a private residence until 1980. The antebellum inn has seven guest rooms, each with television, VCR, private bath and antique and reproduction furniture. The third floor, two-bedroom suite nicely accommodates families traveling together, as children are always welcome at Meadows Inn. Phones and wireless Internet are available in each room, and local calls are free. A full breakfast, served every morning in the breakfast room, included hot entrees, fruits, breads and a choice of coffee or tea. Lunch and dinner are available for small groups, and complimentary soft drinks and tea are always on hand. With a special focus on Civil War sites and memorabilia in the New Bern area, hosts encourage family reunions and small group retreats or conferences at nearby New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. Meadows also offers a Mystery Weekend Package beginning with Friday evening where wine and cheese and clues distributed for the Saturday evening solution around the inn dinner table.
