Open daily, Capt. Ratty's menu features a variety of seafood and steaks cooked just about any way you want. Owner Tom Ballance says the restaurant serves some of the best steak in the state, due partially to Capt. Ratty's high standards for cut selection. Crab, shrimp, clams, mussels and oysters are on the menu. A children's menu lists grilled cheese and hamburgers. Clam chowder, sandwiches and salads suit all tastes, and beverages include soft drinks, tea, coffee, beer and mixed drinks. Having won "Wine Spectator" Awards for the last seven years, Capt. Ratty's is known for its excellent selection of wines. Available during dinner or at the new wine bar, which is open Wednesday to Saturday from 5 PM until, wine lovers can also enjoy special tastings on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 PM. In addition to downstairs dining and a banquet room, Capt Ratty's has a unique view of downtown New Bern with rooftop dining that opens during the first weekend in May.
