Open to the public and free of charge, the demonstration gardens of Craven County Cooperative Extension showcase the work of Cooperative Extension, Master Gardener Volunteers and Eastern North Carolina Rose Society. The gardeners share with the public more than 70 varieties of roses ranging from climbers and shrubs to hybrid teas and miniatures. Additionally, about 80 species and cultivars of landscape trees live in the garden. Various techniques and classes utilize the Demonstration Vegetable Garden and a butterfly and bird garden as practice ground and examples. The food grown in the vegetable garden is donated to area programs for the needy. Tours are held on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 PM from March through October, and on the third Saturday of the month seminars are held at 10 AM, from February through August.  To visit the gardens, take U.S. 70 west from the Glenburnie exit in the city to the Clarks Road exit to the right about 5 miles farther. The immediate next right turn is Industrial Drive and the Craven County Agricultural Building, which houses the County Cooperative Extension and two other offices, is the third building on the left.
