New Bern’s primary source for print media is the New Bern Sun Journal. A division of the Halifax Media Group, the Sun Journal has dedicated photographers and writers in the immediate area, as well as connections to the Jacksonville Daily News, the Kinston Free Press, Havelock News and the Star News in Wilmington. All combined, this daily newspaper is a tremendous source for local news and offers a website with weather, breaking news, photo albums and aggregate reports of news on the state and national level.

In addition to having larger newspapers spread out through Eastern North Carolina, many neighborhoods have weekly or monthly publications printed by the New Bern Sun Journal that provide very localized content for neighborhoods like Taberna and Riverbend. Many neighborhoods also enjoy a free weekly publication called the Shopper, which is filled with coupons and bargains from area businesses.
As the only major television network with its primary studio located in New Bern, WCTI-12 is an ABC affiliate that provides coverage across Eastern North Carolina. Using New Bern as its home studio allows WCTI-12 to provide breaking news coverage, features and up-to-the-minute storm reports as far west as Kinston and Goldsboro, and as far east as the Outer Banks. WCTI also owns WFXI-8, the area’s FOX affiliate.
Although WITN-7, the area’s NBC affiliate, and CBS station WNCT-9 are both based in of Greenville, each station provides the area with excellent coverage for news and weather. WITN-7 does have a smaller studio in New Bern, which often leads to slightly more local coverage than WNCT-9, which tends to focus broadcasts on Greenville-based stories.

Known for national programs like All Things Considered, local features like the Down East Journal and classical music, New Bern’s public radio affiliate is Public Radio East (PRE). With a studio located in the heart of New Bern on the Craven Community College campus, PRE programming can be found on 89.3, 88.5, 90.3, 91.5 and 88.1.
